006-025 LORETTO 1. The charming Baroque building of the Loretto stands opposite the monumental Černín Palace. 2. The railings in front of the Loretto are adorned with statues of angels carrying shields. 3. The Calvary and the Chapel are protected by ambits from the 17th century. In the middle of the 13th century the court in centre of the ambits was decorated with fountains. 4. The rich decorations of the Santa Casa, where formerly the Loretto Treasure has been kept, was built in the 17th century by the Italian plasterers Agosty, Colomby and Comety. 5. The Loretto Treasure was later moved to the ambits; it consists of historically and artistically precious religious chalises, robes and monstrances, mostly from the 16th to 13th century. The oldest relic is a smallish gothic chalice from 1510, decorated with enamelled pictures. 6. The ceiling paintings of the ambits are mostly the work of the painter F. A. Scheffler from the second half of the 18th century. The altar picture in the Chapel of St. Francis Serafin (Francis of Assist) was painted by the Czech Baroque painter Peter Brandl. 7. The famous Loretto carillon was made by the Dutchman Claudio Fronn at the end of the 17th century. The chimes, originally playing four tunes, are set into motion by a clock mechanism made by the Prague watch-maker Peter Neumann.
